Choosing decoration by garment, not by habit
Fleece, performance poly, caps and canvas each want something different. A quick reference for picking print or thread by what the piece actually is.
Most decorators pick a process because it is the one they run, then make the garment fit. Running both print and thread removes that constraint, and the decision becomes what it should have been all along: what is this piece made of, how will it be worn, and what does the artwork need.

The two questions that settle most jobs
Does the artwork have more than about six colors, a gradient, or photographic content? If yes, it is a print job regardless of the garment. Does the piece need to read as premium — corporate, outerwear, headwear, anything where the customer is paying for the decoration as much as the garment? If yes, it is thread.
When both answers point the same way, the job is easy. When they conflict, run both: printed back, embroidered chest.
Mixed orders are normal
A single order running an embroidered left chest and a printed full back is one of the most common combinations we handle, and it stays one job with one approval and one carton. That is the practical argument for keeping both processes under one roof: the alternative is two vendors, two lead times and a hope that the colors match.
